Buying Safely

Safety exercises to protect yourself against each type of scam

There are many different kinds of online scams that target DokanApni users like you. Here are some usual scams that you should watch out for:

  • Phishing: This is a fraudulent attempt to access your sensitive data such as credit card details, bank account information, and password. Typically, it asks you to click a link to a suspicious website. This may come in the form of calls, emails, texts, and random chats sent through online messaging platforms like Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp.
  • Contest fraud: This is usually done through SMS or other messaging apps. It asks you to send money to an account in order for you to claim a prize that you did not actually win.
  • Websites or social media pages impersonating DokanApni: These are websites or social media pages designed to look like DokanApni. They may ask you to provide personal information, financial information, or passwords.

DokanApni takes user security and data privacy very seriously. We will only contact you through our official channels and we will never ask for your personal information.

Ways to spot scams

      • Requests for OTP, passwords, or PINs
      • Poor spelling and grammar
      • Unrealistic offers
      • Impersonation tactics:
        • Fake prize messages
        • Account issue alerts
        • Payment requests
⚠️ Note: DokanApni will never ask for money outside the platform or through unauthorized channels.
      • Fake customer service calls
      • Requests for remote device access
      • Unknown number impersonation

QR Scams

Some “DokanApni Sellers” may ask you to pay outside the DokanApni platform. They offer a discount, cancel your order, then reach out via messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber, sending a fake “DokanApni QR code” for payment. Once you pay, they disappear without fulfilling the order.

To avoid this: Never accept off-DokanApni offers or QR payments. Always transact within the DokanApni platform, and report any seller asking otherwise, immediately.

Cash-On-Delivery (COD) Scams

Paying for parcels you didn’t order or that don’t match your actual purchase. Some companies, including scammers, bundle packages from various sellers and send them to delivery companies, who then deliver them and collect payment. The cash goes back to the sender, often leaving you with an unwanted item.

To avoid this: Always verify the parcel before paying. Check your “Order” history when in doubt, and inform anyone receiving parcels on your behalf about the expected delivery.

Parcel Scams

Scammers may request extra payment, claiming issues with your parcel’s weight. They’ll message you outside DokanApni, asking for a higher shipping fee with promises of a refund on the initial fee. After you pay, they disappear.

To avoid this:Legitimate sellers won’t request payments outside DokanApni. If in doubt, contact DokanApni Customer Service immediately.

Lucky Draw Scams

Scammers send messages claiming you’ve won a prize and request personal and financial information to claim it. In “lucky draw” scams, they may say you won a DokanApni Contest, asking for your OTP, contact number, or credit card details. DokanApni will never ask for these.

To avoid this: DokanApni values user security and data privacy and never requests personal information. Verify the identity of anyone contacting you, monitor your card transactions, and remember that DokanApni announcements are only shared through official DokanApni channels.

Part-time Job Scams

Scammers may reach out via Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram offering fake part-time jobs with DokanApni, claiming you’ve been selected for extra income. They ask for an upfront payment but never deliver. Some may refund small amounts at first to build trust, but as the value increases, the refunds stop.

To avoid this: DokanApni never recruits through messaging platforms and does not have a role called “Online Purchasing Agent.” We never ask for advance payments or deposits to work with us. All finance-related transactions should only be done through the DokanApni Platform official website.

Complete Order Scams

Scammers might claim that you can earn a profit if you transfer money for them to invest for you, or release payment early for them to resell the products you purchased.
Scammers may ask you to select the “Order Received” before getting your items. If you do the payment will be released to the scammer. Protect your money and only confirm orders when you’ve received your items.

To avoid this: Do not trust sellers who try to convince you to select Order Received before you receive your items. Do not engage in other types of transactions (other than buying) on DokanApni, such as a resale transaction.

Impersonation Scams

Scammers pretend to be either official personnel of organizations or DokanApni employees to cheat money out of unsuspecting victims.

How it works:

      • #1 There have been reports of individuals receiving calls, emails, and text messages from couriers or DokanApni employees asking for personal info and money transfers for parcel release.
      • #2 Watch out for scams posing as DokanApni employees offering high-paying roles after a survey. Victims transfer money for a “task package” but end up unable to withdraw earnings. Stay alert!

To avoid this: Make sure to track your order within the DokanApni platform. DokanApni never asks for advance payments for jobs. Stay alert, don’t trust unofficial sources.

⚠️ Note:
DokanApni will never ask for any of your credit/debit card details for verification purposes. If you receive any calls or text messages from someone claiming to be a DokanApni customer service agent asking for such details, please hang up immediately and do not disclose your personal data.

In all of the above examples, the scammers may get you to do one of the following:

    • Steal OTP/password/PIN
    • Collect personal data
    • Make you send money
    • Redirect you to fake websites
    • Pressure you to act urgently
